看到東京的人們還是繼續的堅持自己的崗位，照常上下班時，不禁納悶起來這樣到底為了什麼?

我可以理解為基本產業必須堅守崗位外，更需要投入更多人的努力，而其他的投機產業呢?

面對地球的浩劫，就如同一場人類與大自然的戰爭，不是更應該全員備戰，全國動員起來，統籌分配資源，並整底規劃救災、防災與重建。全體國人共體時艱，盡速的將傷口做好醫療與檢討。

這總比將金錢與人力投入穩住金融股市裡來得更有意義吧!

Fwd: 真知灼見

看著周遭的朋們，在這滿坑滿谷的草莓園裡打轉，

奮力地想殺出一條血路，殺聲連連防線卻步步退後，

開始腦代開始浮現了過去的一段記憶，

不久的過去,也是開始移動的開始。

2008年十一月，等了好久終於公司讓我回去工作了，回去那個非常有意思的室內番茄農場。

2009年一月，番茄的病的情形趨於嚴重,工時一樣少,，期待新棚的番茄到來。

2009年三月，結構精簡化後，認識的人變少了，三個主管和一個部門就這麼消失了。

離開時的一片光明似乎已變成了烏雲罩頂一般，這經濟不景氣的烏雲不管到哪裡都感受得到他的威力，

由於去年番茄市場的火紅，公司決定大手筆新建的兩座無比大的溫室，預估今年的榮景，個各笑的有多開心就多開心阿!

一個轉眼，人人憂心忡忡的自己飯碗不保。

番茄市場價格的低落，讓公司一個頭兩個大，消費者所選擇的已經不再是依品質與品牌為主，價格列入了相當決定性的因素，

外加上市場上人人都種番茄導致供過於求，可想而知公司只好勒緊褲帶，請人捲舖蓋走路了。

我們著些外來客，看著僧多粥少的情形下，只好離開這座開山山頭和親如家人的朋友們，遠走他鄉。

2009年六月，經過一路長途跋涉上山下海的旅途，到了Queensland也如願以償做了兩星期的草莓工，

辭了工作，只能怪遇人不淑吧，找了一間聞名已久的草莓農場，出名的爛，但草莓卻出名的第一。

幾個星期下來辛奮的找尋Booking下一間草莓農場，得到的答案總是下星期再打。

看著陰雨綿綿的天氣，一直期待的雨過天晴的大草莓產季日子的來臨，

看到又翻了一頁月曆，與周邊的朋友討論著工作的不舒服，

才驚覺著自己是否過於天真，或許這裡冬天可以穿短袖短褲，不見得這裡經濟景氣的如常阿。

已經到了產季卻收成緩慢，公司開始現量雇員，這一切的開始確是我一直忽略的地方，

忙著在超市抄草莓盒上農場資訊，卻沒注意到價格怎麼這麼便宜，300g特價不到兩元。

抱怨著自己的老闆怎麼這麼沒人性時，忽略的老闆也許也自身難保，哪個老闆會自我犧牲已全手下員工呢?

新興的草莓園林立，應呼來的背包客不計其數，如果沒有消費的市場，那"等"可是沒有期限了，

非要到了這麼接近才呼應出警覺，非要親身經歷才知"早知道"的可貴，

如何早知道，如何想的遠，看的仔仔細細，忽然感覺到自己似乎是半張著眼睛再過生活。

努力接收新訊息，努力學習自己所不足，努力體驗生活點滴，放下對未來的憂慮與強求，

只須對未來新存希望，自己事事都能盡心盡力而為之才行。

Strawberry後序

經過了兩個星期的磨練下來,對自己包草莓的能力可說是自信了不少,
只要草莓不要太小顆,包起來的速度可以達到每小時20幾盒沒問題,而且草莓吃得更爽了喔!
更紅更甜了,因為得病的一堆,所以垃圾量大增,那些都已經進到我的肚子裡了,真是把草莓當飯吃阿,
不過...,我們辭職了.因為...,被薪水嚇死了,
第一週還有基本工時計算,第二週開始就是by contract的了,看來主管跟老闆根本不認識,
主管之前還信誓旦旦的跟我們保證,老闆絕對不會就真的這樣付我捫薪水,多少都會另外給讓人滿意的補貼,
結果找老闆問是不是搞錯了,結果老闆冷冷的說是我們太慢了,做了30小時結果70元,虧我還認為我已經算是裡面包的又快又好的了,
二話不說,要了薪資明細就走,一點都沒有半點留念,
事後想一想,是不是草莓吃太多了,自己變成草莓一族了,身邊的那些泡菜妹都還在那�打拼著,
連Saturday or public holiday都還努力工作,每週三十幾個小時賺個八九十塊都沒有打退堂鼓.
在我們離開之後,老闆明確的訂出的一套合理的制度,就是前20個小時by houres,之後就by contract,
一樣高標準的規則,專業的檢查員,明確爽朗的退件,包一盒一樣是18c,

Oh my god! I don't like Strawberry

我已經在strawberry farm packing了五天,兩個呆瓜每天開三十幾公里去上班,

跟一群泡菜妹一起面對strawberry罰站,低頭思.........,

一開始覺得真是一分輕鬆又簡單的工作,Strawberry比Tomato輕多了,

而且又是呆在Packing shed,連汗都沒有留下一滴,

但是到了今天才發覺脖子可真是酸阿,每天低頭一直packing,

現在的草莓又小又醜,真的是很難包,"產季還沒有開始,要到七月才會比較好"

再加上這間農場的規定一堆,光包法就有七八種,一顆也不能錯(奇怪!她怎麼不規定草莓都得照規定長),

還有一個天殺的規則,

Strawberry不能擠壓到,但是排到盒子裡面也不能太鬆,

Supervisor會一盒一盒的檢查重量外,更會拿起來搖一搖,盒子倒過來抖一抖,

只要有一顆晃動或者擠壓到,退件!退件!退件!

都是受過教育的文明人,好好的把它當藝術品在處理,結果馬上就又被嫌棄了,

Supervisor溫柔低說,收成不好的時候是by hour,但是要是進入產季就是by punnet喔,一盒18cent,

媽呀!一小時要包一百盒才有到最低工資耶,您老子第一天一小時包不到"五盒,"到現在也才免強到"十盒",

這中間的落差,是經驗還是能力的問題阿,挖哩一小時賺個1.8大洋,

真是每天兩個人拼命的把油錢賺回來,嘿...嘿...,

為了設定停損點,問清楚到底什麼時候是by hour or by punnet,

雖然看似一家子人的主管與員工,答案真是眾說紛云阿,最後都會推給那個快閃族老闆,

真的很會閃,我才見過她三面,連一聲Hello都來不及說,

我看真的只有等薪資下來才知道了吧!

心情低落到只好邊包邊嗑草莓,下班把不能包的草莓帶回家讓心底實在點,

不能用的草莓是包出去的三分之一,要是汽車吃草莓就能跑最好了!

 

每當我罰站低頭思自己是手腳笨還是太蠢時,農場的電話響個不停,

一堆人打來問缺不缺工人,一堆背包客在等工作,還有印度阿三直接開車殺來問,

是應該慶信自己有工作才對吧...是吧?...是嗎!

Anyway就當給自己練練特技吧!還是得趕快找個大公司比較有保障些!

 

澳客們!別只顧著打電話到草莓農場問工作,這真的是一份很有挑戰的工作喔.

Bull shit

想起前天去車廠維修遇到的那個婦人,一手推車嬰兒車和滿臉笑臉的跟銷售員撂狠話,

" What can you do for me? "

劈頭的第一句話,如果不回頭的話還以為是在吵架,聲音宏亮言辭犀利,卻面帶笑容且態度清鬆自在,

從對話中大概可以了解是銷售員的"Bull shit"與事後的service的不同吧,

相較之下,我們就像兩塊沾板上的肉一樣,一句"我們無法處理"就打發了,

相較之前銷售員說的,

"100 points services" , " We'll fix every thing to run safely on the road " and " Don't worry if there are any problem, we will service."

還以為自己要到了三個月的warranty就保險了,真是..."Bull shit"

就像Dina講的,把價格砍下來才是真的.

雖然沒有留下來看到他們最後的結果,不過光看年輕的sale person語不成句,連資深銷售員都上場救援緩頰,

轉移話題稱讚小孩可愛,想用溫情攻勢軟化對手,最後也得敗陣下場,

最後換小boss上場應戰,可惜這時被銷售員岔開現場去維修部門,不然我可真想看看她到底是怎麼應對的,

讓那小boss滿臉通紅一副快要哭出來的表情躲回辦公室,

到底結果如何我不清楚,因為我們離開的時候她還獨自坐在那�,等待著更高等級的對手,

這讓我想到在台灣的一些傳統定律,真是錢付了之後就只能求神保佑了,

不然就得像那個婦人一樣,自己為自己而奮戰到底!

 

宿命阿

這一定是家族宿命

,今天要去Dougy家給他們欣賞一下我的RAV4可得先好好清洗一番才行,在農場工作把車給弄得髒西西的,哪知一洗完車就...下雨了,買車當天也是,車場剛把車洗乾淨交給我們,回程的途中也開始下雨,就連在台灣的時候,第一台福特的小綠跟第二台歐寶的小白一樣的命運都是如此.這是老天在給我暗示,他有再給我加持是不是阿!

農場工作也要做作業耶

明天就要交作業了,真是火燒屁股了才有動力要做,Dougy我的主管希望我幫農場寫一小短篇文章,
分享一下自己的心情,提供給農場製作刊物之用,真是徹頭徹尾的給他融入其中了.

如果說要寫給台灣的看的話,那我糾察隊的性格就會出現了,一堆小毛頭不懂事對人沒禮貌,做事情隨隨便便又愛計較,
真的是很難溝通,只比澳門來的不學無術的傢伙好一點,這讓我想到在Sarna家遇到的台灣老婆婆,剛好她來賣掉Melbourne的房子,
當Sarna跟他說我都會幫忙作家事的時候,她一點都不相信我是台灣來的,這讓我十分好奇我的學生到底最後會變成什麼樣?

Flavorite Farm

You maybe think that I'm sick, because I like to wash the floor. The first day I brushed the gutter and just knew Gerry and Brian. It was very hot working in shed 17. The second day I painted in same place, and then I washed the floor whole the week. I don't remember how was my feeling when I did, but I remember how pain it is. After working day I just went to bed early, or I couldn't survive tomorrow. That week I ate a lot,but still lost a lot of weight . Another thing I remember that I knew Dougy, Tom, John, Tim, stan, ... and many friendly coworkers. The second week there were only one thing on my mind, and also It lets me feel very embarrassed. Many workers they are older than me, but they singing and smiling at working time. This job just likes a piece of cake for them. I am very happy to work with them although most of time I couldn't understood what were they talking about . When I felt there was no energy to do more, there are some voice will be coming into my ears that are " Break time " or " Lunch time ". I could go back to Brew room, and there are cafe, tea and fruit waiting for me. It let me feel I was cared. We have BBQ monthly and my first time was Dougys' Kitchen. It's a very humanly company. I am very happy that I got my salary this week for last week. Working hardly is worthy now. " Bobbin man" is my second nickname. It's a good job easy and regular. However I had to work alone, I started to miss working with other guys. The only guy I could talk was Kim. The other thing I worried was I didn't want to get weight back after I lost 11kg successfully. It didn't make me problem, because my boss gave me part-time exercise doing leaves, picking leaves, packing out leaves and etc. Merv likes leaf machine, because we always only hear his picking leaf sound pass us quickly. He become our target and we didn't want to be slower than him. My Taiwanese friends and I really enjoy these games. I never did picking or packing, and I could not tell you how much my friends enjoy in their bonus. Sometime I am very surprised that Taiwanese really like earning money even over time. I used to ride bicycle to farm. It is always the most difficult part when I was working here. I hate Sutton road and many hills, but I like the sites of warragul because there are many hills. Matt is the first man ride bicycle pass me when I was riding up the hill on Sutton road. There are few minutes and then I couldn't see his rear light. It let me get a reason to keep riding. I don't like see anyone's rear light. After I finished the bobbins I often worked in seedling and Matt was my another new boss. Grafting is really interesting and it's the first time I get bonus. Oh ya! However I felt I have to go back to language school to improve my English. I have to keep learn every day. I am from Taiwan that is a small island. Jack Chen or Bruce Lee are the same race as me. I enjoy my work and life. I am happy working here and I get more healthy and money. The most important thing I got is I have many friends from different countries now. All our Taiwanese countrymen who have worked at Flavorite have really enjoyed their experience while here.

親愛的同志們,

經過這週大家的努力,從下週開始picking和packing就沒頭路了,只剩下crop worker還有些許工作,

大部分都是在清棚了,從五月開始到現在,也已經清了6,2,3,7,1,15和14棚,planting也大致都完成了,

剩下10,8,9,11,12,13,16和17棚這幾棚還沒清,但是也已經讓番茄樹斷水斷電了,只等這些功臣們死透些好下葬,

如果分散慢慢地做的話,大該還會有三到四週的工作量(每週大概三十小時),

八九月的農場可真的會向空城了吧,也有一些人已經開始放大假了喔!

 

新棚確定九月底會完工,目前預估十月後會比較忙碌(Normal workers),

我們這些Causal worker大概等10或11月在過來比較適合,如果還想在來的話!

目前農場將會引進更多的烏克蘭,歐洲等地的學生,上個月也找了中國的agent,

或許是我們這些認勞認怨的台灣人給了他們一個好印象吧,哀.......

 

我七月四日美國獨立紀念日離職,原則上我大算回來繼續做,再參加一次今年的Flavorite's christmas party,

吼,真的是好吃吃到飽耶.

My treasure

Something I treasure which is significant for me is my cell phone.
My cell phone is very costly, because the new one costs $800. It has many functions, and it is similar to a little computer. I can install many programs like English dictionary, games and personal documents etc. I save many songs in it, so I can listen to music everywhere. The other important function is that it is a simple camera. When I go shopping it can help me to remember the prices of the many things that I want to buy. I can compare the same things on different shop's prices, so I can make a good decision.
It's very valuable and useable, but it's not the main reason that I treasure it. It's a gift from my student's parents. I taught their children for 4 years, and we have become good friends. It belonged to the mother before, but she gave it to me when she knew I wanted to go to Australia. When I use my cell phone I can remember many interesting things about my students and their parents. I don't feel lonely anytime.
I don't think how valuable it is by money. Something is the most sentimental value, because it's a part of my memory.

The more Difficult it is, The better the progress.

I would talk about my experience at CIC.

This is good for me that I go to CIC by a tram or a train, because it is near the trams' stop and the Melbourne center station. I don't have to walk a long way, so I can save a lot of time to study or visit the city after school. I don't worry about getting up late every morning.

The other is that there are many students. They are from different countries, and I can make lots of friends here. They are friendly and kind. We can know more about foreign culture. It is very interesting to me.

Listening and speaking English is always difficult for me. My teachers at CIC are very different from my teachers in Taiwan, and their pronunciation is different from American. My classmates have their special pronunciation and me, too. We often spend a lot of time to understand each other and repeat our sentences again more again. Sometimes I want to answer my teacher's questions in class, but I don't understand the question. I sometimes feel depression and setback.

Difficulty doesn't always mean that it is bad. I think it is good for me, because it prompts me that I have to improve English even more.

Chloe by Jules-Joseph Lefebvre She has graced magazine covers, had wine named after her and poems written to her. She has experienced fame and adoration and has won high acclaim from critics. Her career began, like the many models after her, in Paris but she was created and moulded by a Master. She is a Melbourne icon, mascot for the HMAS Melbourne, an extremely fine work of art, she is an ingenue, a nymph, a celebrity. She is Chloe, the famous nude portait which has graced the walls of the Young and Jackson Hotel since 1909. Throughout her life, Chloe has kept company with artists, poets, wharfies, Prime Ministers and drunks, soldiers, sailors, celebrities, bushies, labourers and art connoisseurs. Her history involves transformation, death, intrigue, love, war, depression and passion. Chloe was brought to life in Paris in 1875 by the artist Jules-Joseph Lefebvre, one of the most respected and leading academic masters of the painted nude figure in the late 1800s. Marie, a young Parisian woman, modelled for Lefebvre's Chloe when she was around the age of 19. Of Marie there are many tales, but the most probable is that told by Lefebvre's contemporary and student, George Moore. Moore noted that she was a model who posed for several artists and, after throwing a party for her friends, spent her last money on poisonous matches, boiled these up, drank the concoction and died. Moore alludes that the reason for her suicide was love. It is believed that when Marie died she was about 21 years of age. Chloe's debut at the Paris Salon - a showcase exhibition for the leading French academic masters and their prize works - was a raging success. Chloe and Lefebvre won the Gold Medal of Honour, the greatest official award to be bestowed on a French artist and the first of three gold medals Chloe was to win. In 1879 she was the central figure in the French Gallery at the Sydney International Exhibition and at the Melbourne International Exhibition of 1880, Chloe scooped the pool, winning both the highest awards and acclamation. Chloe was purchased by Dr Thomas Fitzgerald of Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, for the princely sum of 850 guineas. In 1883 Dr Fitzgerald approached the National Gallery of Victoria and offered Chloe for extended exhibition while he visited Ireland for three years. However, while Chloe had won the highest of critical acclaim, she had not yet won the hearts of the Melbourne people. With new Sunday opening times in effect and a naked woman at the Gallery, the Presbyterian Assembly worked themselves up into a frenzy of religious protestation. Melbourne society found Chloe's presence in the Gallery quite scandalous. Meetings were held, letters were written, the Sunday Observance League and the Presbyterian Assembly had to be heard. The Argus newspaper was so inundated with letters of both complaint and passion that they dedicated a column solely to the issue of 'Chloe in the Gallery'. Chloe only lasted three weeks in the Gallery before being withdrawn from exhibition and shipped to Adelaide where she was found not to be such scandalous company. On return to Melbourne Chloe remained with Dr Fitzgerald for a further 21 years causing scandal while hanging in his front salon. Passers by on the street could ellicit a view of Chloe, complaints arose and Fitzgerald was forced to move her, this time to the back of his house. Upon Sir Thomas' death in 1908 Chloe needed a new home. This was provided by Mr Norman Figsby Young, the ex-gold digger, art collector, Irishman and entrepreneur of Young and Jackson fame who bought Chloe at Sir Thomas' estate auction for £800. She then graced the public bar of the Young and Jackson Hotel for the cultured viewing and criticism of a wholly new audience. Chloe has kept soldiers company through two World Wars, a Korean War and a Vietnam War. During these times she has held a special place in the hearts of our soldiers, as witnessed on Anzac Day this year when more than 2,000 people went to Young and Jackson's to have a drink in her company. During the World Wars diggers came to drink with Chloe before being shipped out. Letters were written to her from the trenches of Turkey, France, and Papua New Guinea, swearing their true love and promising to return. During World War II a crewman aboard a German luxury liner was accused in the US of being a spy. As an alibi he recalled that at the time of the offence he was in Melbourne. Remembering it well, he noted a railway station with a hotel opposite and a nude in the bar - case dismissed! American GIs fell so in love with her during World War II that plans were made to abduct her. At this time one particular GI, before he went home, was so besotted with Chloe that he threw a glass of beer at her exclaiming that 'he would give her something to remember him by'. In 1943, after this incident, Chloe underwent conservation work followed by a two-week exhibition at the Kozminsky Gallery as her first effort for charity. At sixpence a view Chloe raised money for returned servicemen's repatriation. She was a smashing success and raised £300. In 1987 Chloe moved upstairs into her own salon. Two years ago Foster's Brewing was thrilled to acquire, through its Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group, two of Melbourne's most famous and recognisable icons, the Young and Jackson Hotel, and Chloe. Having put up with each other for almost 100 years, Chloe and Y&J's have become inextricably linked as part of Melbourne's heritage. The National Trust and Heritage Victoria decreed several years ago that they remain bound together forever. The Foster's Brewing Group, as custodian of this heritage, is presently refurbishing Chloe's home whilst Chloe has been enjoying popular acclaim on exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. While she is away from home, Chloe is again raising money, this time for Challenge: a cancer support network. Through the provision of a full range of recreational and support services, Challenge improves the quality of life of Victorian children and their families living with cancer and other life-threatening blood disorders. The original block of land was bought in 1837 for £100 by John Batman, one of the founders of Melbourne. and was used as a girls' school. A hotel was later built on the site which, after several changes of ownership, was bought by two men who had been successful on the gold fields in New Zealand - Messrs Young and Jackson. Meanwhile, in another part of town, another story was emerging. At the grand exhibition of 1880 held in the Exhibition Buildings, a nude painting, Chloe, by Chevalier Jules le Febvre had won a gold medal. When this painting was exhibited at the National Gallery in 1881, a scandal broke out. Chloe was much too brazen for the puritanical 'wowsers' of Melbourne society, and the trustees of the gallery were abused in the newspapers for allowing her to flaunt herself in the gallery - and on a Sunday afternoon! Messrs Young & Jackson were eventually able to buy Chloe in 1908 and hung her above the bar in their hotel. Custom increased dramatically. Young and Jackson's and Chloe have been inseparable ever since. Chloe was allowed a brief excursion recently. She was allowed out to hang in an exhibition of nudes. Where? At the National Gallery! She was removed in a rather undignified manner by a crane through the first floor window. But she has returned from that little outing, back to the bar now named after her. Y & J's has become almost as famous a meeting place as 'under the clocks'. Many diggers during both world wars arranged to meet their mates afterwards at Young and Jackson's. And Chloe still smiles down on them.

Rich, then Happy

I think it's better to be rich than happy.

The first reason is that I can get more time. If I was rich, I wouldn't have to work. I would travel everywhere all my life, and my dreams would come true.

The second reason is that I could take care of my family. They wouldn't worry about money. They would have enough time to find their dreams. If they were happy, then I would be happy, too.

The third reason is that I could earn more money, and I could use my money to earn even more. I could give jobs to other people, so they could take care of their families, too.

These reasons are why I would rather be rich than happy. I would have more chances to be rich in my life.

I have been living in Melbourne for a week, and I will tell you something about my experiences.

Something good about Melbourne is the public transport. I can go anywhere by tram. It is more comfortable and convenient than the bus. It runs along the road, so you can see the beautiful buildings.

There are trains, and it looks like the rapid transit of Taiwan. You can go to far places by train, because it runs fast.

It is a little cool here, but I like it. I usually wear a T-shirt and a jacket everywhere. Remember to take your Metcard and enjoy every day.
